Ahead of the 2011 Frankfurt Motorshow, and after BMW's most successful year for sales to date, the company have announced that they will be creating 3,500 new jobs in Germany and in its plants abroad.
1,800 of said jobs will commence from the end of 2011, the majority of whom will be involved in product development at headquarters in Munich. The remainder will be based abroad.
The purpose of this recruitment endeavor is to provide for the increasing global demand for BMW vehicles. Furthermore Harold Krüger, Board Member for Personnel, commented that these new employees will "help us meet the consistently strong demand that has developed for our vehicles and to offset natural wastage within the company."
I am curious to know what he means by 'natural wastage'. Perhaps he means that they will be working to develop sustainable production methods and ways to 'offset' the vast number of vehicles that they manufacture, by reducing their carbon footprint.
In addition, BMW have taken on over 1,000 trainees this year, in Germany alone.
This news signals BMW's global success and financial gains over this troublesome economic year.
